The PCP of IP

What do you look for in a primary care physician?

You probably look for someone qualified, friendly, and straightforward, who’s within your budget and accepts your insurance. You want to ensure that your health (and that of your family) is in good hands, with someone you trust to take your health concerns seriously. (Additionally, isn’t it nice when the office tells you ahead of time how much a visit is going to cost, and the bill actually reflects that?)

When you find that good doctor, you go back to them, you build a relationship with them. Your health is too important to entrust to anything less!

But what about the health of your IP portfolio? We’ll be the first to acknowledge that a person’s health is far more important than any patent or trademark. However, for those of us who are concerned about keeping our IP in good shape, comparing your IP management partners to physicians is actually not too much of stretch. You want qualified individuals, who provide attentive service, who won’t bankrupt you with unexpected charges.

What’s your experience with your renewals provider? Do you get qualified face-to-face service or do you have to fight to get your provider’s attention? Do you get a reasonable invoice with the quoted price, or do you get a convoluted bill riddled with unpleasant surprises? Wouldn’t it be great to work with a renewals provider who was qualified, attentive, and affordable?

In case you weren’t aware, such renewals providers exist. We can think of at least one off the top of our heads!
